      Senior Practitioners Workshop

Senior Practitioners Workshop   On 1 October 2018 the Senior Practitioner Act 2018 (the Act) came into force. The Act provides a formal framework for the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices. Restrictive practice’ means a practice that is used to restrict the rights or freedom of movement of a person for the primary purpose of protecting the person or others from harm. This includes chemical restraint; environmental restraint; mechanical restraint; physical restraint; seclusion, and; verbal directions, or gestural conduct, of a coercive nature. The Senior Practitioner’s role is to ensure that restrictive practices are planned and documented in positive behaviour support plans, they are only used as a last resort and only when necessary to prevent harm to the person or others, they are the least restrictive option available and are utilised for the shortest possible time.     The Senior Practitioner, Mandy Donley is working with education and care providers, to inform and assist in developing positive behaviour support plans which ensure best practice in the ACT. At this workshop Mandy will be working through some scenarios in the education and care sector and running through the development of positive behavioural support plans, which include the use of restrictive practices and the reporting requirements when a restricted practice is used.   11 April 2019, 9.30-11.30 Main Hall 16 April 2019, 9.30-11.30 Main Hall 3 May 2019, 14.00-16.00 the Mezzanine   Please ensure you have your e-ticket displayed on your device or a hard copy ticket to be scanned at the hall entrance.
